What will I learn?
In this workshop, participants will first be introduced to the concept of Data Citation, including best practices, Persistent Identifiers, FAIR Data Principles, benefits of data citation to data providers, and more. We will then move into how ONC has implemented this function/service in Oceans 3.0, including DOIs, Landing Pages, data policy and licensing, data agreement implementation, and more. We will dedicate time to discussing these concepts together, and asking for feedback from your organization's perspectives on improving functionalities and support services. At the end of this session, you will know how to cite data in Oceans 3.0, and know where to find resources to help with data citation.
How will it benefit me/my organization?
As an organization that has partnered with Ocean Networks Canada for data integration into our Oceans 3.0 data management system (https://www.oceannetworks.ca/observatories/digital-infrastructure/oceans-3.0), we want you to fully benefit from the data citation services that we provide. We hope to answer questions like:
- How do we get credit for our contribution to datasets accessed from Oceans 3.0?
- How do we know how our data is being used?
- What kind of metrics can I obtain about these data?
- How do we cite these data in our reports and publications?
- How is ONC incorporating best practices and standards?
- How can I learn more about this topic?
After this workshop, you will have a better understanding of data citation, a very important and rapidly emerging facet of data management.
Why am I invited?
You have been invited to represent one of the data partners which has a project with Ocean Networks Canada. As a data partner, you have entrusted ONC with its data repository services. We would like to share with you more information about the data citation services that we offer, so that you can fully realize their benefits and have input to their ongoing enhancements. We are including a wide spectrum of data partners representing academia, government, indigenous peoples, industry and non-profits. Your participation and feedback will help us to deliver better services for diverse stakeholder perspectives and expectations. If there is anyone else at your organization that you would recommend for this workshop, please send an email to datacitations@oceannetworks.ca with their name, role, email address, and why you are suggesting them.
What does it cost?
The workshop, being part of DynaCITE (Dynamic Citation Identifiers Training and Education), is offered free of charge to all ONC Data Partners.
What are the workshop logistics? - where, when, how (what equipment do I need to participate), who?
It will be held remotely using Zoom platform on Thursday and Friday, October 27-28, 2022 from 9am-12pm (PDT), with breaks. To download a free Zoom Desktop Client or check system requirements, please follow links bellow:
